The identity crisis with Mocha.

We’ve gone through many early iterations to find the right name for this platform, we stuck with Mocha because it was unique and served its purpose well, but we felt like the platform was still missing a core component, so we went back to the drawing board.

The core of Mocha.

The core is to connect people and create a community where everyone is in control of their own ecosystem, yet nobody is limited to one perspective.

This original vision for Mocha was edgy and dark, as represented by the logo, but we weren’t sure if this was the route we wanted to take with Mocha as it did make it less inviting to new users.

Making Mocha friendlier.

We felt the need to rebrand Mocha so it would be more inviting to new users, so we decided to rename it “Bubble” and changed the color palette to something more digestible and friendly.

We also wanted it to be more flexible, for multiple variants if we decided, yet the original logo also was flexible so this problem was not resolved.

However this rebrand caused many more problems for Mocha, one of which cut against what Pegalos stands for, this rebrand made Mocha much more generic and difficult to differentiate within the multitude of social media platforms that already exist.

Resolving the identity problem.

We went back to revising our previous designs, and felt like Mocha might be the best fit for this sort of platform. To avoid the platform from feeling unwelcoming, we softened the colors used and made the logo friendlier.

This new logo is inspired much by our angular logo for Mocha, but we designed it around a top-down view of a mug with coffee inside, the handle on the right side. We experimented with different angles for the handle and felt like it being on the right side was perfect, other directions made the app feel like a navigation app rather than a social media.
